TORONTO, CANADA (December 4, 2018) – Nominations are now open for PODCAMP TORONTO’s second annual CANADIAN PODCAST AWARDS for outstanding podcasts produced by Canadian podcasters, editors, and producers.

“Podcasting is about sharing, learning, and understanding the lives of people around us. With the Canadian Podcast Awards we wanted to highlight the diverse voices, ideas, and values we have here in Canada and give creators the recognition they deserve,” said John Leschinski, Chair of Podcamp Toronto.

Winners will be announced at an awards party sponsored by Girth Radio in Toronto on February 23, 2019 at the Pacific Junction Hotel, as part of the 13th Annual Podcamp Toronto un-conference running from February 22-24, 2019.

Twenty-six categories are open to nominations including Outstanding News & Current Affairs series, Outstanding Society & Culture series, and Outstanding Documentary series. Entries are free and open to podcasters from across the country who meet the eligibility criteria. Nominations close December 29, 2018.

Awards will be adjudicated by Canadian podcasters registered with the awards website. Podcasters are verified by the Podcamp Toronto Organizing Committee. Awards-round voting will be held between January 1, 2019 and February 18, 2019.

This year’s awards feature a newly created PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARD comprised of the top nominated podcasts across all categories, open to voting by the general public from January 1, 2019 to February 18, 2019 at awards.podcamptoronto.com

Over 100 Canadian podcasts were nominated for awards in 2018. Winners included the true crime podcast Minds of Madness, The Bed Post, That’s How I Remember It, and The Inadequate Life.

“What makes the CPAs unique is their dedication to supporting independent podcasters. As the industry grows, and organizations with deep pockets create podcasts, the CPAs inspire and assist emerging podcasters,” said Keith Tomasek, producer of the Performers Podcast, 2018 winner for Outstanding Society & Culture series.
